Sustainability

"While it is hard to look at your life and say ‘this is unsustainable’, it is even harder to look at your life and say ‘the reason my life is unsustainable is because I am unsustainable.’ It takes courage to do that, and it takes even more courage to take steps to rectify it."

-- The amazing Clint Hocking, on his decision to leave Ubisoft Montreal

Oh no :(
Hopefully he will stick around Montreal and Quebec or else we will loose one of our smartest developer around.

I must say though, I admire his courage to leave a situation he is getting to comfortable in to keep things moving in his life. I should do the same.

I copied that exact statement onto my own facebook page. Incredible insight anyone could learn from.

Even though I've never been a fan of playing SC games (or FarCry 2, actually) I do look to them as inspirational titles and I've read Hocking's blog previously. They're losing a good designer but their loss will be someone else's gain.

Kudos to him for making a move, where staying put would have been easy.

Though I have a seething rage for the direction Ubi has gone; I realize there are real people doing the best they can there.

Good words. Ubi will continue on, they have some great stuff in the pipe.

Unfortunately it will be DRM'd out the wazoo and further make gaming for the consumer more cumbersome than necessary.
