Ten Kinds Of Awesome

[UPDATE: IGF 08 Best Web Browser Game! I so called it!!]

At Gamasutra we've been running a series of interviews, conducted by my colleague Patrick Murphy, with the indie developers whose games are in this year's IGF. They're always fun to read -- mostly young unpretentious types who are entertaining and really having a good time with their development projects. I haven't gotten to check out nearly as many of the entrants as I would have liked, but today, when I was editing the interview done with One Ton Ghost, I just had to go and check out their Best Web Browser Game nominee Iron Dukes.

Okay, it's freaking hilarious and adorable. It's like steampunk 19th-century America, Thomas Edison is a warlock, and you're a greedy professor looking for treasure at sea. You've got to pick and outfit your ship's crew, and all the members have got silly names and improbable equipment. Plus, they're all amusingly ugly. Gameplay's a little bit resource management and a little bit minigames, it's all very accessible, and the art style, sound and vibe are total fab. There's a demo up right now you should make sure and check out.

Ha, I edited that one also!

"You have 30 seconds left to live and you must tell the game business something very important. What is it?

PF: You were adopted.

RB: I would try to think of something clever to say for 30 seconds and then die, apparently."

I wish everyone was fun to interview :P
