Apparently I've been living under a rock, because I've never heard of or seen the point-and-click "escape the room" puzzle games from Japanese developer Terminal House. Of these, Guest House is the latest and the best, and is seriously one of the coolest game experiences I've had in some time. It's just challenging enough, I think, without being obscene, and minimizes the often infuriating pixel-hunting that this genre sometimes forces you to do. The minimalist, cel-shaded art is really nice, also.I recommend having the rather pleasing atmospheric sound on, and for maximum immersion, don't have any distractions. One more tip --because this is a point-and-click, make sure you try a few different clicks when you want to look on top of or behind anything before you decide for sure there's nothing there.
Please-please check it out, especially as Christmas Eve weekend with the fam can definitely put you in the mood for an "escape the room" game.

Lovely little game, thanks for pointing it out! :) Logically, I knew everything I had to do on my own; worked out the number puzzles, knew what objects I was looking for. But I did go scour up a walkthrough to find one object that was (IMO) in a particularly unfair pixel hunting location.
Aside from that, though, a very well made and enjoyable, somewhat minimalist gaming experience!

The fuse was bizarrely placed, but that silver coin was unseeable from anywhere but that bizarre "above the box" viewpoint, AND it was the same color as the box!
Yeah, I didn't want to provide any spoilers, but damage being done, it was the silver coin. I literally never would have stumbled on that by myself. The fuse was almost as hard, but at least that one didn't require finding a near-hidden screen as well.
