There's
this community on Livejournal where all they do is make theme bento. This week's theme was video games, and this Bowser was by far the standout:

Creator Pezlady84 says, "He's made from 3 kinds of cheese, green bell pepper, carrot, a bit of nori and an umeboshi for the mouth." Wow! Still, no points for originality, as the
Bowser bento has already been done by an anal-retentive (but freakishly talented) Japanese mama who managed to add some flowers made out of lima beans and ham, and some stars, too.

This is *amazing*! My question is, what would it all taste like together? I just don't know about cheese and peppers in the same bite :).
On top of rice, no less. Well... I guess you can put cheese and peppers together on pizza, or in Mexican dip... but with seaweed and plum paste?? Ew.
I wonder what our Psycho Japanese Okasama made hers out of, and whether it's flavor-riffic? That's a good point, though-- at the end of the day, bento is meant to be eaten.
That's it; we are holding a Game Food Cook-Off, sponsored by Cooking Mama and Diner Dash. We will be the judges, and game cakes and game bento will be judged as much on taste as on their snazzy looks. How awesome would that be? We might have to eat the spam-and-mashed-potato Pac Man, but we could also eat a Katamari Ichigo layer cake. I would need several bites to be sure that I am being as fair a judge as possible.
